The Pin lived on a few different hats as they wore out over time.  I decided that I was too worried about losing it to leave it on my hats anymore. Kind of like quitting while you’re ahead.  I survived enough seasons and it was time to retire to the inside flap of my guiding Bag where it would hopefully be safe and I could still see it from time to time.

Fast forward a year or so, and I was tying tube fly steelhead skater flies with a hole burned in the throat of them so the line could be fed into the tube eliminating the need for a riffle hitch.  Previously, I had been heating a sewing pin with a lighter and melt the hole.  although effective, it was an ugly method and left carbon on the melted area.  A client suggested (during a day of downtime due to muddy water) that we use a push pin.  This worked well but the diameter of the hole was touch and go.  I continued to do it this way for a while but encountered people had a tough time threading it.  That's when I grabbed the “Peace, Love, and rock and roll” pin from my guide bag and started using it.  Although not as sharp or accurate as a push pin and a little awkward to use.  The hole it creates is perfect for 15lb Maxima.  I still smile overtime I see the pin on my tying desk.
