Guest Blogger "Kent Davenport". With a family story.

Another guest post from Dr. Kent Davenport about a fine group of gentlemen from Chicago (Mr. Kent refers to them as THUGS). In my second season at Norlakes I was fortunate enough to meet the four brothers John, George, Dan, and Mike as well as their Dad. Hopefully they see this post and remember how much fun they used to have at the lodge and come back for a visit.

There is a group of Irish thugs from Chicago the Flaherty brothers who come and bring joy to the camp periodically. John (in the above photo) the leader was head of the emergency room at Chicago main hospital and was a walking encyclopedia and a real gentleman. He had three brothers one of whom was named Dan. Dan was placed in a run called log jam in high water. This is a real curse as you are surrounded by alders, rocks and deep pools. Just the place to find a good fish. Dan hooked up to a real hog and as the anglers across the river at Albright's watched in horror it ran downriver. Dan did not hesitate. He ran after the fish. He was over his waders and only his forearm and rod and reel were visible as he bounced down the river. He finally came to shallow water about 30 yards below where Pierce Clegg was beside himself. "You fool what are you trying to do drown yourself" The fish was landed and back at camp Dan became a part of the legend of the Babine. How can you not love it. His reputation spread far and wide. A couple of years later the Flaherty boys were fishing in Colorado and Dan was in a fly shop in Durango buying a few things. The clerk looked at him and looked at his drivers license. His jaw dropped and his eyes were as big as silver dollars as he asked "Are you Log Jam Dan"
