It's not the cover of the Rolling Stone, but it's something.
I love donating flies to charity auctions, I always have. Earlier in my tying career, while living back In Cape Breton. I would donate the Cape Breton Anglers "Salmon Smoker" every year. Its a little intimidating to put yourself out there for the first time, but it is for charity. If your flies raise anything, then that's good. I'm not sure why I enjoy it so much, but there is something sort of fun about seeing what your flies will go for. I'm sure on some weird level it plays on your ego a little.
I recently donated a couple of dozen flies to "Califonia trout" A guest I guided last season is heavily involved with the organization and I committed to entering something. Because of the COVID pandemic, they were forced to go to a virtual charity auction online which I thought was quite clever. You can see the flies HERE and likely bid on them soon. I was down to the wire with my entry assume that they need to arrive in the mail first so the bidding can begin. I'm going to blame the COVID for my tardiness, or maybe the fantastic weather we’ve been having.. Have a look and please bid and support their cause.
