Peace, Love, and Rock and Roll

About 10 yrs ago I was introduced to a client named “Dave” he was a long time client of the shop and an interesting character to say the least.  He is the type of guy that if you’re not watching him would start “experimenting”  he liked using his own flies and onetime was witnessed (after sometime. . . .  unsuccessfully) with a foam hopper tied on his nymph rig.  Who knows tho right? Why wouldn’t it work?  Well, that day it didn’t anyway.

One day I took notice of a pin on his shirt.  Peace symbol, heart, rock and roll.  I commented on it saying I liked it, and I could not get the words out of my mouth and he said “do you want it” I said no I was just commenting that like it.  He insisted I take this pin.  He had bought it at a Hard Rock Cafe somewhere while travelling.  I should remember which one but I think it was Nashville.  

As time went on year after year when he would return and I would still have the pin in my straw guiding hat.  It would often arouse questions from people or people simply stating “Peace, Love, and rock and roll”. A pretty damn simple way to bring people a small spark of joy.  After all who Wouldn't smile after repeating those three words.
