. . . . . . and for your little Footsies

I was going to include what my footwear program in my last blog post, but somehow I managed to delete everything I wrote and didn’t feel like writing it over again right then.

I will break it down into warm and cold weather.

Warm- I usually will wear a Darn Tough merino wool mid-weight sock in a stockingfoot wader.

True to their name they are tough.

True to their name they are extremely tough. I’ve been on these socks for over a year now and they are great. A little spendy but worth it. Merino is so incredible with its ability to not stink. You can make these stink but you have to work at it.

Cold Weather - I change my approach for cold weather, the main difference being a boot foot wader. I struggle to keep my feet warm in stockingfoots (regardless of footwear lineup) for any length of time in water temps below the low 40’s. I’ve tinkered with this combo quite a bit as I spend the majority of my time with waders on, in colder temps. If it’s warm enough outside I am almost always going to wet wade. I really really dislike sweating in waders. The program that I am running these days is a 2 part deal. First I wear a thick Alpaca wool sock. I was introduced to Alpaca socks as a gift from a client. Shortly after receiving them I lost one of the pair so I never did get to dial it in. I still keep this lonely sock in case its mate were to turn up one day. This summer I found myself sockless at the fly shop on a rainy day. Nancy at fishtales suggested I try these.

My new fav socks.

I absolutely love them. When combined with a bama sock in my boot foots., I believe I have found the answer. On a number of occasions this fall I spoke out loud to people of my cozy foot comfort.

Don’t forget to buy your boot foots a little bigger to make room for this 2 part system. The Bama appears to be made of something not of this earth in its moisture-wicking abilities. At the end of the day, these bamas can be nearly soaked in sweat and my feet are completely dry inside my cozy alpacas.

Being cold sucks, having to quit before you want too. . . . .sucks even worse. Do yourself a favour and try a few of these products. They make my life better.
