Patagonia Work Station "Pencilcase"
The product’s actual name is the “Work Station” but it will always be known as the “Pencil Case” to me. (Watch the little video at the bottom of patagonia’s photos it’ll make sense.)
Let me start this product review by stating that this Item was given to me free of charge. This is not something that I likely ever would have bought. I’m so glad I was given one and if I ever lost it, I would buy it again right away.
I have become somewhat of a skeptic about a lot of fly fishing products. I've bought many of them and have gone back into a more minimalist sort of mindset.
Myself and my guide partners were given these a couple of seasons back to try them out. When I first saw it, I said top myself (No joke), "What am I supposed to do with this Pencilcase." Admittedly, It was an ungrateful and asshole thing to think, but I include my honesty in the story to reflect positively on a great product.
I fell in the river one day and forgot to dry out my waders that evening. I scrambled in the morning as I had to switch all the items from my wet waders to my dry waders. I decided this may be a good use of the pencil case. After the very first day I used it, I was 100% sold on it. I thought it was the greatest thing of all time. Upon returning to the guide shack and telling the whole story of the pencil case, I nearly got laughed out the door. They had anticipated my skepticism but were surprised by my acceptance of the new product. Am I that guy now ?? The grumpy old one who doesn't like anything hahahaha.
Anyway, I really like this product. A few areas where it shines are:
If you are a person who switches waders at all, It's great to have all essentials in one easy, quick spot. clip-on, clip off.
I have made it my take everywhere, every time, piece. Licence, fly box, tape, tippet, few sink tips, nippers attached, nail knot tool, lip balm or whatever other treasures you like to carry.
Whether you are a zip-up, pull down, male or female. There are options for configuration so that you don't piss all over it when nature calls.
I can easily unclip it if I'm working in my waders and don't want the bulk of all the fishing crap. Great if you hunt or do other activities in your waders as well.
It's tough like a bad mother-in-law. It seems well built and no issues after two years of use.
There are lots of little pockets and crap to hook onto.
My perfect size. Big enough for what you need but not so big you are looking for other items to fill it up.
Excellent in the drift boat for a stop and stalk setup.
I can see some possible flats applications for walking.
You can wear it inside or outside of your waders depending on how you like it, just by tucking it in or out.
All in all, It's a great little product and should be included in everyone's arsenal.
