Crabbin'

Beauty day in the chuck

Growing up on the east coast, I never had the opportunity to harvest much seafood. Regulations are strict and many of the coastal species were already depleted. I would have loved to have a chance to recreational lobster fish, but this does not exist. I did do some rec scallop diving in my 20's, which was incredibly satisfying.

Since moving to BC I have been honing my crabbing skills with the help of friends, old-timers and once a random guy who approached me at the boat launch (This man showed put me onto one of my best spots to date)

Pick your spot, bait your trap, set, wait and pull. Seams easy, and it can be when you are in the right spot. Pulling up a crab pot is like opening gifts at Christmas. I can hardly wait to see whatcha got.

In BC, you are allowed six male crabs over 6 1/2' wide on the back. It's a pretty good feed for 1 or 2 people.
