The Riffle Hitch
As promised, the follow-up to my story about the Bull Moose fly pattern. first heard of the riffle hitch when I lived back east. It was a tech that was mostly used in NFLD for salmon. I hadn't messed with riffle hitching too much until I was in my first season guiding for steelhead in BC.
I wanted to write a bit more about this but I'll save it for another time. In my research, I found a video and an article that describe it quite well. I'll likely do a vid of my own at some point for riffle hitching, as I have a few more things to say about it. For those who know the "Bullwinkle" Skater dry fly originated by Mark MacAneely, you'll see some similarities to some of the flies in the Fishmadman article. Dig into that article; there's some fascinating history from Portland Creek NFLD.
