W.A.S.L

I very rarely have a chance to be a straight up, sit down, enjoy, you're not supposed to be working and are not allowed to work. . . . Guest at a lodge. This past fall KK and I went to Andros South on a postseason vacation. Being on the inside of the industry for so long it's hard to flip the switch. Somewhere in there, I asked "whos here right now" "there are four guests currently Barry, Barry, Bob and Bill." I couldn't wait to meet them. Barry and Barry were from the UK. Bob and Bill were brothers from the US and all had been to the lodge multiple times before. It was a great trip with lots of laughs, but the thing that I will remember the most of that trip was WASL.

Barry and Barry have been fishing together for some years and every day before we all parted ways one of the Barrys would say " Have a great Day. . . . .W.A.S.L" the next morning on the van ride I believe WASL came up again, and he asked if I knew what it meant. He explained to me that it stood for "We are so lucky" he said that he thought it essential that we remind ourselves that all the time and appreciate all the good things in our lives.

It's so very real, No matter how much crazy stuff is going on around you there are always great things that you can be thankful for. I feel like I have just scratched the surface of what W.A.S.L means to me in this blog. It’s almost like it has put a name to something that I’ve long struggled to make sense of. Barry Has lived by this mantra and it has served him well. Into His 80’s and still fishing on the regular and doing big International trips. I thanked Barry numerous times for introducing me to this amazing acronym, and It will be something that I will never forget . . . . . . . . . . W.A.S.L.
